Please meet again at 5:30 in our meditation room behind Mystic Mountain. We will share our practice in meditation and exploration of Spiritual Friendships, Kalyana Mitra. "When the student is ready the teacher appears", is an ancient zen expression that points the way to how we interare with other beings, things, conditions, that guide us and how we may realize our highest spiritual ambitions. As Rumi entreats us to "treat each guest honorably": Who and what are your guests, your "spiritual friends", how to recognize them, what to offer, what to withhold? What special opportunities have we created within our sangha to nurture and express our Kalyana-mitra?
- Guest House
This being human is a guest house
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
With deep gratitude for all of my Spiritual Friends,
