Being on Retreat
On retreat, we enjoy sitting, walking, eating and working together in mindfulness with periods of sitting and walking meditation, Dharma talks, teacher/student interviews, Dharma study groups and walking meditation on the beach and in the woods. The retreat will be held primarily in Noble Silence to support our practice. A week-long retreat offers a highly beneficial opportunity to deepen our practice as a Sangha community.
Eileen , has practiced Zen meditation for over 30 years and has studied with Robert Aitken Roshi and Thich Nhat Hanh for over 25 years. She was given Dharma transmission by Thich Nhat Hanh in 1990 with the Dharma name “True Lamp”. Eileen is the guiding teacher for the Mindfulness Community of Puget Sound (MCPS) and other mindfulness sanghas in the Pacific Northwest. She is a co-founder of the Mountain Lamp Community in Deming, Washington. Mountain Lamp will be hosting a 2-week retreat from December 29 to January 12, just prior to the Indianola Retreat. Please see the Mountain Lamp website for further details.

The Vimalakirti Nirdesa SutraOne of the early Mahayana Sutras, which outlines and supports the practices of lay people.
Dear Friends,On retreat, we will open the Dharma door of liberation offered by the layman Vimalakirti in the sutra which carries his name. The sutra, one of the earliest of the Mahayana texts, introduces the six paramitas and a multitude of bodhisattvas who exemplify and practice the paramitas: Dana (generosity), Virya (diligence), Kshanti (patience), Samadhi (meditation), Sila (precepts), and Prajna (understanding). Embracing mindfulness night and day, we open the liberating Dharma doors of the paramitas while we sit, walk, work, eat, and sleep.Warmly,EileenWINTER RETREAT WITH EILEEN KIERA
