Car Free Day

posted May 28, 2010, 4:29 PM by Five Stones   [ updated May 28, 2010, 4:38 PM ]
Last year we began this event in Corvallis, posting flyers, staffing the peace fair booth, collecting signatures.  We received this email announcing the event is being picked up by the Sustainability Council and give greater voice.  I've contacted them and let them know we will participate again this year, and are happy to see this being given larger community attention.
Please try to attend the meeting Car Free Day Organizing
Meeting, Thursday, June 10, from 12 noon to 1:30 pm at the public library.   I have contacted the organizer and invited her to our practice Sunday evenings, and/or out for cofree or tea to discuss this further.
With gratitude,
Here is their announcement:

The Corvallis Sustainability Coalition has picked up on a challenge
initiated by Thich Nhat Hanh and made it one of their own, which is the
World Car Free Day on September 22.  They are looking for volunteers to
assist in organizing for the community challenge, and there is a meeting on
June 10 for those interested.  This is an opportunity for any one or some of
us to participate locally in a worldwide challenge initiated by Thay.  Here
is the excerpt from the latest Sustainability Coalition newsletter, if you
haven't already received it:

Planning for Car Free Day - The Corvallis Sustainability Coalition is
initiating a community-wide challenge to participate in World Car Free Day
on September 22.  Car Free Day is about coming together as a community to
look at healthier alternatives to the car - such as public transit,
bicycling, walking, carpooling and telecommuting.  During the past decade,
communities around the world have used World Car Free Day to showcase what
our cities might look like, feel like, and sound like without so many cars.
All interested community members are invited to a Car Free Day Organizing
Meeting, Thursday, June 10, from 12 noon to 1:30 pm at the public library.
This will be an opportunity to find out more about Car Free Day, to
brainstorm the possibilities, and to help with planning.  Contact Annette
